From a paper mountain landscape to one of the oldest butleries of Stockholm, located in the underground beneath the old gardens of the Royal Palace:

“I worked for a long time to make things that had lost its mystery mysterious again. I had to go far away to do this. I had to go to a place that was not mysterious at all, so I could bring forth an urgent longing for the mysterious. I made images of the mysterious and I made it into a world of its own and I made things shimmer that were not suppose to shimmer or in fact did not shimmer at all. As I had done this, the mysterious suddenly seemed otherworldly and the shimmer redundant. So I had to make it seem as if it is nothing more than what it is, or tried to be, or possibly could be. Neither had I any wish to add anything more concrete that might be things, names of places or persons. It was hard work, but in the end there were finally nothing but lines on paper.”

As part of the second meeting of EUFRAD, in Stockholm 27 – 30 September 2011, a two-day workshop was held at DKTUS on the topics of documenting and presenting artistic research using low-tech technologies without recording devices. The meeting was organized by DOCH, University of Dance and Circus, and Konstnärliga Forskarskolan together with the other higher seats of learning in the arts in Stockholm.

This workshop was one of several parallel seminars/workshops held in different locations around Stockholm, in “alternative” spaces where the space itself could be part of the discussion. In these smaller groups each participant was expected to present and discuss how questions concerning documentation and presentation are problematized in their own research project.

This event was organised by EUFRAD, The European Forum for Research Degrees in Art and Design, forms part of the activity of ELIA, the European League of Institutes of the Arts.

Under våren och sommaren 2011 har DKTUS tillsamman med Erik Sjödin arbetat med en förstudie för Biodlarsamhället; ett projekt som förenar konst, filosofi och forskning. Fonden Innovativ Kultur har beviljat projektmedel för att utveckla projektidén som ”bedöms ha potential att konstnärligt nå ut med angelägna frågor på bred front”. Den 16:e augusti bjuder vi därför in till pratstund ute på täppan om hur vi ska ta projektet vidare.

Vi bjuder på fika och när det mörknat kommer vi att ha en utomhusvisning av dokumentärfilmen Vanishing Of The Bees. Ingen av oss har sett filmen men vi hoppas den är sevärd. Ta med er varma kläder och något att sitta på om ni vill stanna kvar och titta på filmen.

I höst planerar vi även att starta en läsecirkel och därför kommer vi att ha ett litet bokbord med böcker och texter som relaterar till projektet. Ta gärna med er eget material/tips. Vi letar efter posthumanistisk litteratur och konst, böcker om bin och människor och liknade.

Tid: Tisdagen den 16:e augusti, drop-in mellan kl 16 och 19. Filmvisning när det mörknat.

Citronerna skalas och skivas, det vita under skalet tas bort (rabarbern skärs i bitar). Kokande vatten hälls på farinsockret, citronerna (och rabarbern). När allt svalnat till 35 grader tillsätts honung och jäst. Blanda väl så honungen smälter. Låt jäsa ett dygn. Häll upp i flaskor med lite russin i. Förvaras svalt. Färdigt efter fyra dygn.

The archivist is a collector of histories and a lover, connoisseur and a possessor, owner of objects that hold the memories and marks of these histories.

The Archivist arranges sorts and presents these collections of moments in moments and in the presenting can distort and create with theses materials other ways of seeing these things. This can make the archivist the narrator of the story and starts to questions through memory whose story is it that being told.

The ownership of history is often possessed by the mind and is as much about itself as it is about an other. The work in this exhibition is made about these things and is about construction, distortion and ownership of the archives that are often conceived in the mind. It is displayed in this show as a wish and a need to pass on and continue the pattern of this process.

In the exhibition New Things Under The Sun, the artists Gabrielle Iwelumo, Gemma Lovett, Karolina Hedstrom and Nicholas Pankhurst moved parts of their personal archives to gallery DKTUS. Now DKTUS has invited a number of artists to expand the collection with personal and found items, worn out equipment and other stuff.

This archive will be brought up from the downstairs exibition space to create a permanent archive on the ground floor with further expansions in the future.

A certain percentage of the population have minds so constructed that they can influence the mentality of others and dominate them. These individuals are known as operators and refer to the rest of the population as things. Upon these things they establish liens, chattels, and charters and so retain options over them. Primarily, an operator is concerned with making points. He does this usually by engaging in draws with other operators. In a draw, a group of operators are concerned with influencing the actions and thoughts of the thing. A selection of subjects is drawn up, one is chosen and each operator in turn enters and influences the thinking of the thing upon that subject. The operator who has had the greatest influence upon the thing and motivated its actions and thinking to the greatest extent wins the draw which means winning the points each operator has put up to enter the draw. When draws are questioned by operators, an authority given the authority judiciates it. An operator can influence the mentality of people by extending his concentrating powers of from a distance of one half block to two blocks. Beyond that distance he must use stroboscope (equipment) to probe, feed in thoughts, take out information, or keep a watching eye on the person. A stroboscope is effective for a distance of one mile— in a straight line.

DKTUS is delighted to announce its participation in Supermarket 2011, the international artist run art fair in Stockholm. We will be presenting works by Karl Grandin and And Beyond, Anne Wahrolén Sherman as well as a collaboration between Josefin Hinders and Madeleine Norling. You will find us in the spiral staircase between levels 3 and 5.

DKTUS will also be represented at Biblioteket Plattan on the ground floor of Kulturhuset where Ulla West will be presenting a travelling artists’ book library. The collection ensembled by West contains books by artists and artist-publishers many of whom DKTUS has collaborated with. The artists’ books library has previously been shown at Vita Kuben, Norrlandsoperan as part of an exhibition program curated by Ulla West during the fall 2010. The release of Ulla West’s new book Vita Kuben will be coinciding with her exhibition in the library.

THE QUANTUM POLICE

There is an invisible and little known force amongst us called ‘The Quantum Police’. They operate internationally and assimilate unnoticed into civilian communities. Their actions strive toward renegotiating the relationship between individual and society and claim that the law, morality and reality are all unique to the inner self.

While The Quantum Police (QP) abstain from making their bodily presence known in society, they do communicate their motives via the Internet or through certain individuals who interpret their messages in various ways. In addition, QP leave behind signature traces of their existence through burnt whodunit novels. This latter action capitalizing on the idea there are multiple perspectives to any one given situation. In a recent interview, one Swedish woman—who is convinced that her purpose is to serve as a mediator of QP messages despite the fact that she deems the movement immoral—states how:

The Quantum Police dress like the normal police, but they are not and they are not there to solve crimes. They plant evidence to make the work as difficult as possible.

For the event at DKTUS, artist Per Hüttner will create a performance based on this anonymous woman’s role as a QP mediator and will include her entire transcribed interview along with videos and music played outside the gallery’s courtyard. In collaboration with Hüttner, musician and DJ, Jean-Louis Huhta will perform using a unique musical score created by Charlie White, an artist who in the late 80s developed a series of performances he called “Interviews” based on conversations with QP founder Johnny Ross. White believed that over time, Ross lost sight of the true meaning behind QP and therefore wanted to re-establish his voice as the strength of the movement. White added a soundtrack to the interviews which were then re-interpreted by a DJ as White performed wearing an LAPD uniform and using materials like glass sheets, halogen lamps and vinyl texts. During his performance, Per Hüttner will in a similar way to White, try to evoke the true voice of the woman; a voice which lies beyond the delusions that seem to color her life.

Per Hüttner is a Swedish artist who lives and works in Paris. He was trained at Konsthögskolan, Stockholm and at Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. He has shown extensively in Europe, North America, Australia and Asia. Solo exhibitions include “Repetitive Time” at Göteborgs konstmuseum, “Xiao Yao You” at Guangdong Museum of Art in Guangzhou and “I am a Curator” at Chisenhale Gallery in London. Participation in group shows include The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, ICA in London and the Liverpool Biennial. Four major monographs on the artist’s work have been published recently. Hüttner is the founder and director of Vision Forum, a project-based and experimental research program without geographical location.

Jean-Louis Huhta is a composer, sound artist, musician and DJ living and working in Stockholm, Sweden. He has performed around the world with various projects and worked with several choreographers and film and theater directors. Huhta’s current projects include “The Skull Defekts”, “Dungeon Acid” and “Ocsid”. He recently did the soundtrack for Thomas Nordanstads documentary, “War Reporter”.

The Quantum Police is taking place at three different locations in December and January 2010-11: Stockholm, Sweden; Wuhan, China; and Brussels, Belgium. The project investigates and brings together the known existence and traces of The Quantum Police within society through interviews, performances, writings and an exhibition. The Quantum Police is curated by Anne Klontz.
